Grimm

Project Date:

Runtime: 1:19 mins

I ‘cut my teeth’ on the VFX working with Hive FX for NBC’s monster detective series, “Grimm”

Portland, OR. was abuzz with the news that the city was going to play host to a serial fantasy drama based on the Brother’s Grimm fairytales. It’s local studios were also going to be leading its VFX production, which is where I came into the scene.

I was brought on as an animator, before quickly becoming the Lead Animator for the studio, and managing a team of 2 (up to 4) through 38 episodes between seasons 2-4.

Werewolves, “Hexenbeist’s”, and a whole bunch of cryptozoological creatures running afoul of modern laws with their long running feuds, predations, and rituals made for some fun VFX work! We tracked live action plates, animated blendshape transitions that would get comp’d into full CG head (and sometimes bust and hand) replacements turning characters into the exciting “monster of the week”.
