Glenwood North Logo

Project Date:

It’s a special thing to be apart of the logo for a beloved family restaurant.

Glenwood North” -This was to be quick one, with a hidden challenge. An iconic breakfast restaurant in Eugene, OR. has been looking to expand to a new location, and hit me up (as a family friend) to lend a personal touch to the new logo which would be sporting a slightly new name.

The Glenwood Restaurant has a long and cherished history, with a very recognizable name & a specific look to that name. The challenge here was adding to it.

In the times we’re in, there had already been an innocent attempt with A.i. for the design, which actually was a great starting point for me to see what the goal ultimately was. Generative A.i. was able to get close, but it was missing the secret sauce, and was having trouble matching the look and feel for the word “North”.

“Glenwood” was funky, in an almost endearingly 90’s kinda way. It had a mix of capital letters, and lower case. The guidelines were all over the place, and some letters were floating near the mid-line. A few letters had shape accents, but not all of them, and the vertical lines were clean and nearly uniform in width while the curved lines had an almost artisanal unevenness to them.

I mostly played around with variations in Illustrator, and with the Glenwood’s “N” & “o” already established we just had to discover what an R,T & h would look like, and make sure the vertical variation could work alongside that funkiness defining the classic text. So there’s not much to showcase outside the finished product…

They loved it.

As a bonus, I did some very quick mock-ups exploring some signage styles that were discussed in night & daytime lighting which I was told helped change their mind toward keeping this original vision with an awesome backlit sign on the front wall instead of chasing a quicker fix.

Heck yeah! That’s the power of art.

The Glenwood North Restaurant is due to open in Junction City, OR., Summer 2026
